Electronic (DE, EM) Harassment Countermeasures

Index Page

Shielding

Active shielding: Uses sophisticated electronic equipment to jam, capture, redirect, distrort or nullify the harmful energy. (1)

Passive shielding: Less expensive then active shielding (1) and designed of special materials to block high frequency (RF) energy.

Absorption Material

rf, microwave absorbers: designed to absorb RF, microwaves. i.e.

Examples #1. Eccosorb absorber products are available spanning a wide frequency range from 100 MHz well into millimeter wave with proven application above 100 GHz.

Carbon foam: Example: Cuming Microwave manufactures a family of flexible carbon loaded microwave and radar absorber materials. "These are all electrically resistive materials which attenuate RF energy through ohmic loss."

Common clothing or material: dense material like blue jeans, bags of clothers, matress, water will absorb microwaves, directed energy.

Perp Surveillance

Photo/video: photographing the perps.

Micorphones: recording close range activity

Note: Know the (penal) law. Unlawful surveillance, eavesdropping, trespassing on private property, physical altercations like assault, etc.

Measurement Tools

Spectrum Analyzers: analyzes virtually EVERY radio *transmission* in the area, including the many commercial radio and television stations, police radios, aircraft, taxis, cell phones, as well as eavesdropping devices. Spectrum analyzers DO NOT detect recorders, microphones, anything hardwired, fiber optics, passive resonators, and inactive remote-controlled dormant devices. (2)

Survey Meters:

Probes:

Countersurveillance Measures from PI's (private investigators)

Infrared camera: All eavesdropping devices emit heat. A video camera is hidden in this Magnavox clock radio, but it shows up clearly on our infrared camera.

Pay phones: when contacting a PI it is a good idea to not use your home/cell, office/work phone. When calling from a public pay phone be sure to bring at least $10 to $20 in quarters. Other outside phone options: phone in hotel room, office of hotel room you are visiting, phone in clubroom, lounge of an airport. Tscm.com

Definitions:

Bugs = A miniature microphone, typically concealed in a room or telephone, used for surveillance. Most “bugs” are smaller than a 9-volt battery. (2)
DE = Directed Energy
EM = Electromagnetic.
Electromagnetic spectrum: the range of wavelengths or frequencies over which electromagnetic radiation extends.
Countersurveillance = measures undertaken to prevent surveillance, including covert surveillance. It may include electronic methods such as bug sweeping, the process of detecting surveillance devices, including covert listening devices, visual surveillance devices as well as Countersurveillance sotware to thwart unwanted attempts by cyber crooks to access computing and mobile devices for various nefarious reasons.
Sousveillance = is the recording of an activity by a participant in the activity, typically by way of small wearable or portable personal technologies.
Sweep = a term by PI's for going over an area with electronic equipment looking for bugs. Example: radio transmissions from radio-RF, Telephone, carrier current (the building wiring), infrared transmission, laser beam transmission, microwave transmission, cell phone bug, microphone, hidden video camera, audio recorder, acoustic leakage. (2)
Wiretaps = the practice of connecting a listening device to a telephone line to secretly monitor a conversation. The easiest locations to tap a phone is outside the house where the telephone interface enters the home.
